DEVELOPMENT OF MARTIAL ETHOS
Feedback regarding the objective measurement of physical strength
Feedback from practicing drills from MMA against the resistance of other trainees

Lifting heavy weights is scary and uncomfortable. The fifth rep of a new personal record can sometimes seem insurmountable. However, it is a gradual step-wise method to train the mind to do things that are difficult.
"The Mats Don't Lie" is a common saying for a reason. A trainee needs to obtain a realistic understanding of their skills and limitations before making use of force decisions independently.

Arguably this can only be accomplished by a live fully resisting opponent in a training or competition environment. Today's best examples are the sparring disciplines of MMA.
Twofold goal:

Trainee confidence gained through physical and mental hardship
Humility through tangible knowledge of limitations. Experiencing the consequences of force escalation will drive behavior in seeking alternate pathways to accomplish compliance.
