DEVELOPMENT OF MARTIAL ETHOS

  • Feedback regarding the objective measurement of physical strength

  • Feedback from practicing drills from MMA against the resistance of other trainees

Lifting heavy weights is scary and uncomfortable.  The fifth rep of a new personal record can sometimes seem insurmountable. However, it is a gradual step-wise method to train the mind to do things that are difficult.

"The Mats Don't Lie" is a common saying for a reason. A trainee needs to obtain a realistic understanding of their skills and limitations before making use of force decisions independently.

Arguably this can only be accomplished by a live fully resisting opponent in a training or competition environment. Today's best examples are the sparring disciplines of MMA.

Twofold goal:

  • Trainee confidence gained through physical and mental hardship

  • Humility through tangible knowledge of limitations. Experiencing the consequences of force escalation will drive behavior in seeking alternate pathways to accomplish compliance.
